Aliki and Andrea, a married couple in their thirties, try to make a child, a year after the death of their four year old daughter. Mario, a young closeted man who lives with his mother Dimitra, satisfies his sexual needs by resorting to contacts with men in the park. Aliki becomes interested in miracles when she hears the news about an icon of the Virgin Mary "performing miracles". Meanwhile, Mario becomes interested in a man whom he meets in a swimming pool. This is the first Cypriot film that I've ever seen and I found it interesting, because half of the film is a purely gay story, given in a nice way, for a society (Cyprus) still extremely conservative regarding homosexuality. There are two parallel stories, seemingly unrelated, where the heroes constantly bump into each other, in the cemetery, on the road, at the pharmacy etc.

 Η Αλίκη και ο Αντρέας, ένα αντρόγυνο στα τριάντα και κάτι, προσπαθούν να κάνουν παιδί ένα χρόνο μετά το θάνατο της τετράχρονης κόρης τους. Ο Μάριος, ένας νεαρός άντρας που ζει με τη μητέρα του Δήμητρα, ικανοποιεί τις σεξουαλικές του ανάγκες καταφεύγοντας σε πρόσκαιρες επαφές με άντρες στο πάρκο. Η Αλίκη αρχίζει να ενδιαφέρεται για θαύματα όταν ακούει στις ειδήσεις για μια εικόνα της Παναγίας που πιστεύεται ότι δακρύζει και πραγματοποιεί θαύματα. Στο μεταξύ, ο Μάριος αρχίζει να ενδιαφέρεται για έναν άντρα που συναντά στην πισίνα, ενώ η Δήμητρα διαρκώς ανησυχεί για τον γιο της. (cine.gr)

Αυτή είναι η πρώτη Κυπριακή ταινία, που είδα και την βρήκα ενδιαφέρουσα, επειδή το ένα μισό της έχει καθαρά γκέι υπόθεση και μάλιστα δοσμένη με ωραίο τρόπο, σε μία Κυπριακή κοινωνία ακόμα εξαιρετικά συντηρητική, όσον αφορά την Ομοφυλοφιλία. Είναι δύο παράλληλες ιστορίες, φαινομενικά ασύνδετες, όπου όμως οι πρωταγωνιστές πέφτουν συνεχώς ο ένας πάνω στον άλλο, στο κοιμητήριο, στο δρόμο, στο φαρμακείο κλπ.

Στην ταινία πρωταγωνιστεί κι ένας "δικός μας ηθοποιός" δηλ Ελλαδίτης, ο Μανώλης Χουρδάκης, που στο θρυλικό σήριαλ "Το Νησί" , έπαιζε τον ρόλο τού 'Μακρυδάκη", τού αρχηγού τής αντιπολίτευσης στο Συμβούλιο τής Σπιναλόγκας. (Yavass)

Taxi Zum Klo (1980)

In this autobiographical feature, Frank Ripploh plays himself: a German elementary-school instructor who lives a double life in his beloved Berlin, socializing with his fellow teachers only when he has to, and venturing into a world of anonymous sex whenever he can. In-between bathroom encounters and trips with his colleagues to the bowling alley, Ripploh manages to forge a steady relationship with a handsome, sad-eyed theater manager named Bernd Broaderup. As Ripploh’s sexual ardor for Broaderup gives way to a wandering eye, and Broaderup begins pressuring Ripploh to give up the city and its many temptations, the couple’s relationship replays a scene that was occurring in urban areas across the world and was satirized in such cultural snapshots as the Larry Kramer novel Faggots. Ripploh, who wrote, directed, and starred in Taxi Zum Klo, which, unlike most German films at the time, received no state funding, saw the picture become an international art-house hit after it played at 1981’s New York and Berlin film festivals.

Στο Taxi zum Klo (1980) του Frank Ripploh, ένας δάσκαλος (ο ίδιος ο σκηνοθέτης εδώ παρουσιάζει τον εαυτό του) ψωνίζεται στις δημόσιες τουαλέτες και γνωρίζει έναν άντρα με τον οποίο αρχίζουν να συγκατοικούν.
Το ερώτημα είναι αν κάποιος με τόσο ενεργή σεξουαλική ζωή μπορεί να καλύψει πλέον τις ανάγκες του με έναν μόνο άνθρωπο, φλέγον ζήτημα για πολλούς γκέι άντρες και τότε και τώρα.

An Early Frost (1985)

Michael Pierson, a successful lawyer, is rushed to the hospital. There he learns from a doctor that he has the AIDS virus. At home, he receives another piece of disturbing news: his lover Peter, confesses that he had sex outside the relationship because Michael is a workaholic and is living in the closet. Michael, in a rage, throws Peter out of the house. He then travels to his parents' home to inform them that he is gay and has AIDS.
A multi-awarded, beautiful, groundbreaking film, ahead of its time and still very much valid, fresh and enduring, brilliantly presented with an accomplished roster of actors, director and writers. One of the co-writers is Ron Cowen, writer of the series "Queer as Folk" (2000-2005). All the actors are giving dedicated, strong performances without insulting or preaching to the audience. Ben Gazzara and Gena Rowlands (wife and muse of John Cassavetes), are simply stunning as parents !!
TRIVIA : 1) The NBC censors would not allow the two gay men (Mike & Peter) to be seen together in bed, only for Mike to be in bed while Peter sat, fully clothed, on its edge. The censors were not only adamant that the two men were never allowed to kiss, but also that any physical contact between them had to be "balanced" by Mike's contact with his parents. 2) Even though the film was number one in the ratings during the night it aired, garnering a 33.3 share and watched by 34 million people (it outperformed every other programme that night), NBC lost $500,000 in revenue because advertisers were leery about sponsoring it. The three major USA networks generally shied away from airing programmes with similar themes until 1988.


Ο Michael Pierson, ένας επιτυχημένος δικηγόρος, μπαίνει στο νοσοκομείο. Εκεί μαθαίνει ότι έχει τον ιό τού AIDS. Στο σπίτι, μαθαίνει άλλες άσχημες ειδήσεις: ο εραστής του Peter, ομολογεί ότι τον απατούσε, γιατί ο Michael είναι εργασιομανής και αρνείται να αποκαλύψει στην οικογένειά του την σχέση τους. Ο Michael, οργισμένος, διώχνει τον Peter από το σπίτι. Στη συνέχεια ταξιδεύει στο σπίτι των γονιών του για να τους ενημερώσει ότι είναι γκέι και έχει AIDS.
Ένα πολυβραβευμένο, όμορφο, πρωτοποριακό φιλμ, μπροστά από την εποχή του, αλλά ακόμα και τώρα πολύ έγκυρο, φρέσκο ​​και σύγχρονο. Παίζει μια εκπληκτική ομάδα ηθοποιών, με έξοχη σκηνοθεσία και σενάριο. Ένας από τους συγγραφείς είναι ο Ron Cowen, που έγραψε και το "Queer as Folk" [2000-2005]. ΣΧΟΛΙΑ 1) Οι λογοκριτές τού NBC δεν επέτρεπαν στο σκηνοθέτη να δείξει τους δύο γκέι άνδρες (Mike & Peter) μαζί στο κρεβάτι. Μόνο ο Mike να είναι στο κρεβάτι ενώ ο Peter να κάθεται, πλήρως ντυμένος, στην άκρη του. Επίσης δεν επέτρεπαν να φιληθούν οι δύο γκέι , αλλά και κάθε "φυσική επαφή μεταξύ τους" θα έπρεπε να ήταν «εξισορροπημένη» από ανάλογη επαφή τού Mike με τους γονείς του. 2) Η ταινία ήταν νούμερο -1- στις μετρήσεις τηλεθέασης, το βράδυ που προβλήθηκε, συγκεντρώνοντας μερίδιο 33,3 και 34 εκατομμύρια θεατές [ξεπέρασε κάθε άλλο πρόγραμμα εκείνη τη νύχτα], όμως το NBC έχασε $ 500.000 σε έσοδα επειδή οι διαφημιστές ήταν διστακτικοί στο να αγοράσουν τηλεοπτικό χρόνο. Τα τρία μεγάλα δίκτυα τών ΗΠΑ, γενικά δίσταζαν να δείξουν παρόμοια θέματα μέχρι το 1988.
