Out In The Dark (2012)

In the Arab-Israeli conflict, the fate of Palestinian gay men is a most difficult one. The conservative Palestinian society does not accept them and very often their own family members murder them because gay men "disgrace" the family or the village. If gay Palestinians seek refuge in Israel, the Israeli authorities consider them enemy aliens and often they are arrested and sent back to the Palestinian territories, where they're murdered. Fortunately there are several brave Israeli judges and Israeli human rights groups that help gay Palestinians be saved.

When Nimer, a Palestinian student, sneaks across the border into Tel Aviv he meets Israeli lawyer Roy in a nightclub. Despite an initial hesitation on Nimer's part, the two meet again and quickly fall in love. However, despite their burgeoning romance, the two must face the fact that Nimer is caught between a rock and a hard place - unable to be openly gay in Palestine and unable to live with Roy in Tel Aviv due to the political situation. The two leads are utterly compelling and will leave you wanting the two to succeed despite knowing that, in all likelihood, their romance is doomed.

Η ταινία παίχτηκε στο Φεστιβάλ Θεσσαλονίκης τον Νοέμβριο 2012.

Στα πλαίσια τής Αραβο-Ισραηλινής διένεξης, η μοίρα τών Παλαιστίνιων γκέι είναι ίσως μια από τις πιό δύσκολες. Η συντηριτική Παλαιστινιακή κοινωνία δεν τους αποδέχεται και πολύ συχνά η ίδια τους η οικογένεια τούς δολοφονεί, επειδή οι γκέι ντροπιάζουν την οικογένεια ή το χωριό. Αν οι Παλαιστίνιοι γκέι ζητήσουν καταφύγιο στο Ισραήλ, εκεί οι Αρχές τούς θεωρούν εχθρούς, συχνά τους συλλαμβάνουν και τους στέλνουν πίσω στα Παλαιστινιακά εδάφη, όπου δολοφονούνται από συγγενείς ή συγχωριανούς. Ευτυχώς υπάρχουν αρκετοί γενναίοι Ισραηλινοί δικαστές και Ισραηλινές οργανώσεις ανθρωπίνων δικαιωμάτων, που βοηθούν τους Παλαιστίνιους γκέι να σωθούν.
Οταν ο Nimer, ένας Παλαιστίνιος σπουδαστής, γλιστρά πέρα από τα σύνορα στο Τελ Αβίβ, συναντά τον Ισραηλινό δικηγόρο Roy σε ένα γκέι κλαμπ. Παρά την αρχική διστακτικότητα από την πλευρά τού Nimer, οι δύο συναντιόνται και πάλι και γρήγορα ερωτεύονται. Ωστόσο, οι δύο πρέπει να αντιμετωπίσουν το γεγονός ότι ο Nimer βρίσκεται μεταξύ σφύρας και άκμονος - δεν μπορεί να είναι ανοιχτά γκέι στην Παλαιστίνη και δεν μπορεί να ζήσει με τον Roy στο Τελ Αβίβ, λόγω της πολιτικής κατάστασης. Οι δύο ήρωες είναι εντελώς συναρπαστικοί και μάς δημιουργούν το συναίσθημα ότι θέλουμε να πετύχει η σχέση τους, γνωρίζοντας όμως ότι κατά πάσα πιθανότητα, το ειδύλλιό τους είναι καταδικασμένο.

Satyricon - Fellini (1969)

In first century Rome, two student friends, Encolpio and Ascilto, argue about ownership of the boy Gitone, divide their belongings and split up. The boy, allowed to choose who he goes with, chooses Ascilto. Only a sudden earthquake saves Encolpio from suicide. We follow Encolpio through a series of adventures, where he is eventually reunited with Ascilto, and which culminates in them helping a man kidnap a hermaphrodite demi-god from a temple. The god dies, and as punishment Encolpio becomes impotent. We then follow them in search of a cure. The film is loosely based on the book Satyricon by Gaius Petronius Arbiter, the "Arbiter of Elegance" in the court of Nero. The book has only survived in fragments, and the film reflects this by being very fragmentary itself, even stopping in mid-sentence.
