I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (2007)
Chuck Levine and Larry Valentine are friends and Brooklyn firefighting partners. Widower Larry, who still mourns the death of his wife Paula, is having problems changing the beneficiary on his insurance policy from Paula's name to his children's. He is worried about his children's future if he were to be killed in the line of duty, and is contemplating quitting his job for something less risky, but he also does not want to forfeit his firefighter's pension as he also see it as a safety net for his children. Larry saves Chuck's life on one of their calls. So when Chuck tells Larry that he owes him one, Larry takes him up on his offer. Larry's favor: despite both being heterosexual, that they enter into a domestic partnership, in name and paper only, to provide that much needed protection for Larry's children. Chronic womanizer Chuck reluctantly but eventually agrees...
Εκείνος, ο Λάρι, μόλις έχει εγκαταλειφθεί από την πολυαγαπημένη του σύζυγο, έχοντας να μεγαλώσει ολομόναχος και δίχως βοήθεια από κανέναν, δύο ανήλικα παιδιά. Και εκείνος, ο Τσακ, είναι ένας αθεράπευτος γυναικάς, που τα θηλυκά στο εργένικο κρεβάτι του, χρειάζονται πάντα πολλά δάκτυλα για να μετρηθούν. Οι δυο τους αποτελούν ένα αχώριστο δίδυμο στην εργασία τους, υπηρετώντας δίχως να γνωρίζουν την έννοια του φόβου, στο πυροσβεστικό σώμα της Νέας Υόρκης. Σύντομα θα αποτελέσουν όμως ζευγάρι και στην ζωή, από την στιγμή που ο ανήμπορος να σηκώσει τα οικογενειακά βάρη Λάρι, θα ζητήσει από τον καλό του φίλο, να διοργανώσουν έναν μεταξύ τους λευκό γάμο, ώστε να εκμεταλλευτούν κάποια από τα προνόμια που προσφέρει η πολιτεία σε τέτοιες περιπτώσεις.

The Love Patient (2011)
I loved the film. It's like a mainstream romantic-comedy except the leads happen to be two HOT (masculine) gay dudes who have a cool ying and yang thing going on. Paul is an ad exec, just a tad out of control, lives life within spitting distance of the edge, he has a Jim Carrey vibe about him. His sexy-fine boyfriend Brad is more calm and collected, I couldn't help but notice how much he looks like a young Richard Gere (circa: An Officer and a Gentleman). Paul's foolish ways catch up with him and the couple splits, but Paul doesn't sweat it much until Brad starts dating (another fine corn-fed specimen of man) former Bowflex model Ted. Ted's not the sharpest tool in the shed but he's really sweet and super funny. Paul, afraid that he might lose Brad for good, resorts to desperate measures and fakes having cancer. Be prepared to laugh. Hard. Also, there's an awesome bollywood-esque scene to look out for. This is definitely one of the best gay films I've seen in this genre in a long time.

Get Real (1998)
This tenderly romantic film tells the story of Steve, a young man in a British prep school, as he struggles with coming out and falling in love with the class jock, John... who, amazingly, falls in love with him as well.
Η ζωή του δεκαεξάχρονου Steven Carter (Ben Silverstone) είναι απλή: σχολείο, σπίτι, διάβασμα. Οι στιγμές στις οποίες βιώνει συναισθήματα πρωτόγνωρα, έντασης, χαράς, ερωτικής διάθεσης, είναι όταν πηγαίνει στις δημόσιες τουαλέτες ενός πάρκου κοντά στο σπίτι του, στο οποίο συναντά και συνευρίσκεται με άλλους gays. Είναι η μόνη διέξοδος, καθώς, ενώ ο Steven δε λυπάται για το ότι είναι gay, συνάμα δεν το δημοσιοποιεί. Το μοναδικό άτομο που το γνωρίζει είναι η φίλη και γειτόνισσά του, Linda (Charlotte Brittain), η οποία τόν στηρίζει ως προς την σεξουαλική του ταυτότητα. Σε μία τέτοια λοιπόν «έξοδο», βρίσκεται μπροστά σε ένα συμμαθητή του, τον John Dixon (Brad Gorton), έναν αρχηγικό, αθλητικό, ευγενικό, έξυπνο νέο, ο οποίος εξαρχής, τού δηλώνει ότι η περιέργειά του τον ώθησε εκεί. Ο John, μην μπορώντας να αντέξει τα συναισθήματα που πρωτοβιώνει με τον Steven, απομακρύνεται και συνεχίζει τη ζωή του, ξέχωρη από αυτή του Steven. Ο τελευταίος είναι τσιμπημένος μαζί του, αλλά δε φαίνεται να έχει ελπίδες.
Μία βραδινή εκδήλωση του σχολείου, όπου τα βλέμματα των δύο θα συναντηθούν, θα αποτελέσει το ξεκίνημα της σχέσης τους. Ερωτεύονται, λυπούνται, ονειρεύονται, φοβούνται, υπόσχονται, προδίδονται. Η πίεση που αισθάνονται μήπως αποκαλυφθεί η σχέση τους είναι μεγάλη. Μια σειρά από γεγονότα όμως, θα οδηγήσουν τελικά τον Steven σε μία ώριμη και ειλικρινή αντιμετώπιση της σεξουαλικής του ταυτότητας, κάτι το οποίο δε θα συμβεί με τον John.

All You Need Is Love (2009)
This is a likeable, believeable, funny German comedy set in beautiful south Bavaria and it's about a still hot issue in many countries : Gay Marriage. When Katharina gets a letter from her son Hans announcing his marriage to Nicki, she's sent into an overjoyed frenzy. However Hans forgets to mention that Nicki is a man. When Hans and Nicki show up at Katharina's doorstep with flowers, Kathrina is shocked to say the least and shoos them out of her house. Not wanting to give up on Hans' dream of getting married in his home town, the couple checks into a local hotel to stay in until they can decide what to do. As Hans shows Nicki around town, people begin to spot the two and soon gossip and rumors begin to spread through out the town. The reaction of the parents and the townsfolk is exactly what you might expect from a small mountain town.
Die geschiedene Katharina Remminger lebt in einem Alpendorf in Bayern. Eines Tages erhält sie von ihrem Sohn Hans, der in Berlin Architektur studiert, die Nachricht, dass er in Kürze Nicki heiraten möchte. Da Katharina Nicki noch nie gesehen hat und annimmt, dass es sich um einen weiblichen Vornamen handelt, fällt sie auch aus allen Wolken, als sich Nicki als Mann entpuppt. Bisher hat sie sich noch nie mit Homosexualität auseinandergesetzt und weiß deshalb nicht, wie sie reagieren soll. Kurzerhand setzt sie Nicki und Hans vor die Tür.
Αυτή είναι μία συμπαθητική, ρεαλιστική, αστεία γερμανική κωμωδία γυρισμένη στην όμορφη νότια Βαυαρία και αφορά σ' ένα θέμα, ακόμα καυτό σε πολλές χώρες. Γκέη Γάμος. Όταν η Katharina παίρνει ένα γράμμα από το γιο της Hans, που τής ανακοινώνει τον γάμο του, πετάει απ'την χαρά της. Ωστόσο ο Hans ξεχνά να αναφέρει ότι παντρεύεται έναν άνδρα, τον Νίκι. Όταν ο Hans και ο Nicki εμφανίζονται στο κατώφλι τής Katharina με λουλούδια, εκείνη σοκάρεται, για να πούμε το λιγότερο και τούς πετά έξω από το σπίτι της. Μη θέλοντας να εγκαταλείψουν το όνειρο τού Hans να παντρευτεί στην γενέτειρά του, το ζευγάρι πηγαίνει σε ένα τοπικό ξενοδοχείο για να μείνουν έως ότου αποφασίσουν τι να κάνουν. Οταν ο Hans εμφανίζει τον Nicki στο χωριό, οι άνθρωποι αρχίζουν να τους παρατηρούν και σύντομα κουτσομπολιά και φήμες εξαπλώνονται. Η αντίδραση των γονέων τού Χανς και τών χωριανών είναι ακριβώς αυτό που θα περιμένατε από ένα μικρό ορεινό χωριό.

Como Esquecer (2010)
Julia is a 35-year-old English Literature teacher struggling with depression as she tries to get her life back together again after her long, intense love affair with Antonia. Feeling totally abandoned after she and her enigmatic girlfriend broke up, Julia is thrown into a desperate, painful process. Her life and her values have been tinged with unbearable melancholy and her life's measure seems reduced to out-of-focus fragments of her memories. Her inner turmoil and conflicts hamper a process now made necessary - that of readapting to her new life. It is impossible for her to disguise her pain when she attempts to narrate emotions.

Η λεσβία καθηγήτρια Χουλια μόλις έχει χωρίσει - και με ιδιαίτερα επώδυνο τρόπο. Αυτή, ο γκευ καλύτερος φίλος της, ηθοποιός Ουγκο, του οποίου ο εραστής έχει μόλις πεθάνει και μια τρίτη κοπέλα, έγκυος, που την παράτησε ο φίλος της, αποφασίζουν ν' αλλάξουν σελίδα, μετακομίζοντας μαζί, μακρυά από την πόλη, για να προσπαθήσουν να ξαναβάλουν τάξη στη ζωή τους και τα συναισθήματα τους. Η ταινία έχει πρωτότυπο και δυνατό σενάριο, είναι αισιόδοξη.

The Green (2011)
Director Steven Williford, with writer and producer Paul Marcarelli, craft a compelling story in ‘The Green’. The film takes on people’s perception in a small community in Connecticut that unravels fear, trust but overall the idea that homophobia is still the biggest obstacle to overcome even in today’s liberal society.
Michael Gavin (Jason Butler Harner) leads a quiet day-to-day life with his partner Daniel (Cheyenne Jackson) in a shoreline village. But even though the charming life – which is slightly greener than living in the city – is ever accommodating it soon gets turned upside-down when Michael is accused of inappropriate behavior with a male student in the local high school.
Both writer and director have a keen eye for details, dialogue and character development. The narrative is driven by pushing the envelope from time to time without antagonizing the audience – exposing ideas without overusing the usual clichés. ‘The Green’ is a heroic independent film that not only talks about a gay issue but human nature – after all when it comes to perception sometimes everyone is quick to judge one another.

Exotica (1994)
The 'Exotica' is a nightclub on the outskirts of Toronto, where Eric, DJ and MC, watches nightly as his ex-girlfriend Christina performs. Watches jealously, especially as far as the extra attentions regular customer Francis garners are concerned. Thomas, meanwhile and erstwhile, goes through a series of, um, interesting situations involving his pet shop, a gruff taxi-sharing stranger, unexpected tickets to the opera and smuggled eggs of a rare bird. Multiple story lines unfold in a splendid tangle of cutbacks, forward and backward references and recurring themes, all woven around the Exotica, its customers and employees. A calm roller-coaster ride of a movie, visually and intriguingly and emotionally moving.
Το Exotica είναι ένα νάιτ-κλαμπ στα προάστια του Τορόντο, όπου γυναίκες παρουσιάζουν αισθησιακά σόου υπό τους ήχους του DJ Έρικ. Μια από τις κοπέλες είναι η Κριστίνα, πρώην του Έρικ, που δίνει ιδιαίτερη σημασία στον θαυμαστή της, Φράνσις. Στην ιστορία θα περιπλεχτεί κι o gay Τόμας, ιδιοκτήτης pet-shop, και μια περίεργη υπόθεση που περιπλέκει παλιότερο μυστήριο.
To «Exotica» αφού κέρδισε μια σειρά βραβείων από Ενώσεις Κριτικών και Φεστιβάλ (αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι σάρωσε τα Genies, κερδίζοντας οκτώ, μεταξύ των οποίων καλύτερης ταινίας και καλύτερης σκηνοθεσίας), διανεμήθηκε σε πολλές χώρες σε όλο τον κόσμο, αγοράστηκε για τις ΗΠΑ από τη Miramax, ενώ στον Καναδά η ταινία προβαλλόταν στις αίθουσες επί σχεδόν μισό χρόνο.

Philadelphia (1993)
Andrew Beckett, a gay lawyer infected with AIDS, is fired from his conservative law firm in fear that they might contract AIDS from him. After Andrew is fired, in a last attempt for peace, he sues his former law firm with the help of a homophobic lawyer, Joe Miller. During the court battle, Miller sees that Beckett is no different than anyone else on the gritty streets of the city of brotherly love, sheds his homophobia and helps Beckett with his case before AIDS overcomes him.
Έπρεπε να περάσει πάνω από μια δεκαετία από τότε που το AIDS αναγνωρίστηκε ως νέα ασθένεια, για να τολμήσει το Hollywood να κολυμπήσει στα βαθιά νερά του με μια big budget παραγωγή. Παρά την πορεία του στα επικίνδυνα μονοπάτια αντιμετώπισης της προκατάληψης και των φοβιών του κοινού ωστόσο, ο Jonathan Demme αναζητά κάποιες ανάσες ασφάλειας μέσα από την οριοθέτηση του φιλμ σε δικαστικά πλαίσια, ιδιαίτερο στο δεύτερο μισό. Ο ήρωάς του Andrew Beckett (Tom Hanks), απολυμένος υπάλληλος της ισχυρότερης νομικής εταιρίας στη Φιλαδέλφεια, αναγκάζεται να προσλάβει έναν άγνωστο δικηγόρο (Denzel Washington) στην αγωγή ενάντια στους εργοδότες του. Η χρωματική αντίθεση δέρματος των δύο αντρών θα προσφέρει το πάτημα στον Demme να αναπτύξει τους προβληματισμούς γύρω από τον κοινωνικό αποκλεισμό, προσεγγίζοντας το νέο και ανεξερεύνητο ζήτημα μέσα από την αντιστοιχία του με το επί χρόνια ανοικτό θέμα του φυλετικού ρατσισμού. Με επιτυχία. Όσο και αν δεν απουσιάζουν οι εμφανείς τακτικές πρόκλησης της ευαισθησίας του κοινού, όσο και αν το υποβόσκων ζήτημα της ομοφυλοφιλίας δεν αναδύεται ποτέ επί της ουσίας στην επιφάνεια, όσο και αν η περπατημένη οδός της δικαστικής αντιπαράθεσης αντανακλά την έλλειψη αποφασιστικότητας του σκηνοθέτη να αφήσει την ιστορία του να κινηθεί σε πιο επικίνδυνα και τολμηρά μονοπάτια, το Philadelphia στέκει ως ένα αξιοπρόσεκτο –πολύ περισσότερο δε, αξιοσέβαστο- δείγμα κοινωνικού σινεμά.
