BBC – It’s Not Unusual: a Lesbian and Gay History

1 – Age of Innocence.
Documentary series charting the change in attitudes to homosexuality during the 20th century. This programme looks at the interwar years when, in the aftermath of the Oscar Wilde trial, homosexuality was driven underground. Nevertheless, many people were sexually active, such as those in the artistic Bloomsbury set. Featuring an interview with a companion of novelist Radclyffe Hall, plus other testimonies.
2 – Double Lives.
Documentary series charting the change in attitudes to homosexuality during the 20th century. This programme looks at the late 40s and 50s. In spite of the fear and repression of the era, many were able to form loving and lasting relationships. The men and women who lived through this time talk about their experiences and describe how the battle for law and reform was fought and eventually won in 1967.
3. Into The Light.
Documentary series charting the change in attitudes to homosexuality during the 20th century, with the memories and testimonies of gays and lesbians who have lived through the changes. This programme follows the extraordinary explosion of liberation politics, living and loving together openly and the heady days of disco culture. And interviewees tell how the gay community has rallied together with the onslaught of Aids.
