The Bubble (2006)

Many Israelis call life in Tel Aviv "The Bubble". As if the city were completely cut off from the rest of Israeli reality and its citizens live in a bubble. Eytan Fox is an openly gay director and activist, along with his partner Gal Uchovsky (the latter is co-writer and producer of this film). The Bubble opened the 1st Gay and Lesbian Film festival of Athens in May - June 2007 and Eytan Fox was a guest of honour.

It is a voyage for the heart and the mind, with an interesting perspective to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The movie follows a group of young friends in the city of Tel Aviv and is as much a love song to the city as it is an exploration of the claim that people in Tel Aviv are isolated from the rest of the country and the turmoil it's going through. The movie looks at young people's lives in Tel Aviv through the point of view of gays and straights, Jews and Arabs, men and women. It all begins when Noam, a young Israeli soldier, serves in the reserve forces and meets at a check point a Palestinian young man called Ashraf. Following an incident during which Noam misplaces his ID card at the check point, Ashraf shows up on the doorstep of the apartment that Noam shares with a gay man and a straight woman. How will the meeting affect all of their lives?

Οι υπόλοιποι Ισραηλινοί αποκαλούν Bubble (Φούσκα) την ζωή και τους κατοίκους τού Τελ Αβίβ - ότι δηλ ζουν αποκομμένοι απ'την πραγματικότητα τής υπόλοιπης χώρας. Ο Εϋτάν Φοξ είναι γνωστός γκαίη ακτιβιστής σκηνοθέτης, μαζί με τον σύντροφό του Γκαλ Ουχόβσκυ (ο τελευταίος είναι και παραγωγός τής ταινίας). Το φιλμ αυτό άνοιξε το 1ο Φεστιβάλ Γκαίη Κινηματογράφου τής Αθήνας, τον Μάη-Ιούνη 2007 και ο σκηνοθέτης ήταν καλεσμένος και μίλησε μετά την προβολή.

Τρεις νέοι Ισραηλινοί κατοικούν μαζί στο Τελ Αβίβ, στην κοσμάρα τους - η Λούλου και οι δύο γκαίη φίλοι της, ο Γιάλι κι ο Νόαμ. Ο Νόαμ κάνει εφεδρική θητεία στο στρατό και σ' ένα μπλόκο συναντά ένα νεαρό γκαίη Παλαιστίνιο, τον Ασραφ. Το να είσαι γκαίη, Παλαιστίνιος Μουσουλμάνος σημαίνει θάνατο απ'την οικογένειά του και την Παλαιστινιακή κοινωνία για τον Ασραφ, έτσι η σχέση του με τον νέο Ισραηλινό τού δίνει μια νέα ζωή. Ομως η ζοφερή πραγματικότητα τού πολέμου κάποτε αγγίζει την ζωή τών τεσσάρων, με τραγικό τρόπο.
